Work > Viridiplantae

After working on paintings from family photos, I need a diversion, periodically. I wanted to incorporate the same process and medium used in the Identity Series but with different subject matter, one without a familial/emotional connection.

The land has inspired my work for years. I found some fantastic images of plant material from a friend who is blessed with both an excellent eye and a very green thumb. Photographs from his Long Island garden, used with permission, are providing the underpinning for this new work.

Once the initial painting is produced, I photograph the painting and repeat the process, exploring secondary paintings of highly textured areas within the original painting. The plant materials transform into abstracted almost cellular imagery.
