Working in the studio with some different techniques. While I'm still producing the more tedious works made from photographic images, this series feels more impulsive. I'm calling them "Topographies" (for now). They are a merger of both my early work in abstract painting and the more deliberate mark making of my current work from photographs.
They seem to be reminiscent of traditional women's handiwork like embroidery, needlepoint and quilting (all of which my female ancestors produced), the Mola of South America, and aboriginal paintings from Australia. The paintings are artifacts of my own personal history and also tip a hat to women over time who have worked with their hands.
